The role

The post holder will provide technical support in assessing and managing responses to marine casework consultations relating to development proposals within the marine and coastal environment.  They will have direct responsibility  for managing responses to  lower risk marine casework. They will support Marine Advisors and Senior Marine Advisors in in the end to end management and provision of marine casework advice including high profile nationally significant cases and the provision of advice to Public Inquiries. The post holder will be part of the Marine Area Advice and Management Team, which is a very friendly and supportive team. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

What you will do

  • Collate and provide external advice to preapplication enquiries, marine casework consultations or support that provision by senior colleagues on technically complex  cases, ensuring NRW advice is robust, evidence based and delivered to deadline.
  • Administer the Discretionary Advice Service provision
  • Contribute to the preparation of information in relation to challenges against NRW advice.  
  • Develop and maintain effective customer relationships as appropriate
  • Maintain auditable records of cases as they progress through consenting processes
  • Organise and keep track of large volumes of work.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

  1. Knowledge of environmental impact assessment techniques and methods in particular within the marine environment
  2. Knowledge of development planning and marine licensing processes
  3. Able to communicate effectively with customers, explaining complex issues and gaining support by influencing
  4. Able to analyse information and situations, solve problems and make sound judgements.
  5. Able to write clear, concise documents
  6. Able to work well as part of a team

Welsh language level requirements

  • Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh) with an expectation to develop Welsh language skills to Level B2 – Upper intermediate level (able to discuss work matters) following an agreed
