Constructed wetlands for biodiversity and habitat creation

Constructed wetlands for biodiversity and habitat creation could be ponds, scrapes, bogs or marshes.

As they are designed to create a wetland ecosystem they will not require an Environmental Permit.

Constructed wetlands for biodiversity and habitat creation must not receive wastewaters including domestic wastewater or the mixture of domestic wastewater with industrial wastewater and / or run-off rainwater.

A constructed wetland for water quality improvements would be needed for wastewaters.

A constructed wetland would not be encouraged on a site that provides an existing protected or valuable habitat. Their benefit to wildlife may increase when sited near to other wetland sites to increase habitat connectivity.
