Offer your views on the future management of Alwen Forest

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is encouraging residents who live near the Alwen Forest, Denbighshire, to give their views on a new plan to manage the forest.

NRW - which manages the Welsh Government Woodland Estate across Wales - is holding a public consultation to allow the views of residents to influence the future management of the forest covering 1383ha for the next 10 years and beyond.

The plan sets out long term objectives and includes strategies for how NRW will maintain a sustainable supply of timber, restore ancient woodland features, and improve visitors experience by providing a safe and enjoyable environment.

Aidan Cooke, NRW Senior Officer in Forest Operations, said:

"Healthy forests are vital to the local environment and biodiversity as well as the local economy and culture. They offer timber for daily use, delightful locations for us to spend time in and a crucial helping hand in the fight against climate change.

“We know how important our woodlands are and we want to ensure the people local to the Alwen Forest are provided an opportunity to have an input in its future management.”

People can read the plans in detail and leave feedback via NRW’s online consultation.

The consultation is open until Friday 16 December 2022. A drop-in session will be held at Canolfan Addysg Uwchaled, Cerrigydrudion, from 3.30-7.30pm on Wednesday 7 December 2022 to allow members of the public the opportunity to discuss in person with NRW forest planners.
